Florida woman angry at driver for reportedly running over chicken crossing the road; attempts to 'teach her a lesson': Police

Incident in Key West Over a Chicken

On the evening of July 9th, Cynthia Diaz Sosa found herself in a rather unusual situation on Petronia Street in Key West, Florida. While stuck in traffic, she explained to investigators that they were “waiting for the chicken to cross the road,” as reported by WPLG-TV, which also obtained an arrest report related to the incident.

Sosa told the police that another driver honked at her, passed her, and ended up hitting a chicken, which she felt was unacceptable. According to the reports, she said this driver had intended to “teach her lessons,” referring to her reaction after the chicken was killed.

Following this, Sosa pursued the other car, adding an unexpected twist to the evening. A witness recounted to police that she was on her way to pick up her child from nursery when the offending driver cut her off.

The scene escalated when Sosa reached Emma and Olivia Streets. She allegedly pulled open the driver’s door of the other car and sprayed bear mace into the vehicle, affecting both the driver and a passenger before fleeing the scene.

Emergency responders from the Key West Fire Station treated the two victims right away, while police later apprehended Sosa. She now faces multiple charges: two counts of aggravated battery and one count of robbery.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office indicated that her bond has been set at $35,000. As of the latest updates, she wasn’t listed among the active prison inmates, and her arraignment is expected on July 24th.

Interestingly, many online commentators seemed to sympathize with Sosa. Some expressed disbelief that she was arrested instead of the driver who killed the chicken. Comments ranged from calls to praise her actions, describing her as a “nature lover,” to questioning why the other drivers weren’t held responsible. One user even expressed, “Rip the chicken,” indicating their solidarity with Sosa’s feelings on the matter.
