Robbery Investigation Involving MLB Player
Arizona police are looking into a burglary that involves Arizona Diamondbacks player Ketel Marte. The incident reportedly occurred while he was attending the All-Star Game in Atlanta on Tuesday.
Marte’s home was targeted on July 15, which authorities in Scottsdale have categorized as a “high-cost housing robbery.” Fortunately, there was no one at home during the theft, and investigators have noted that valuable items, including jewelry, were taken. They observed signs of forced entry, leading to the ongoing investigation.
The theft seems to have coincided with Marte’s departure from Georgia, where he contributed to the National League’s victory with a two-run double in the first inning of the game.
This incident marks another in a series of break-ins aimed at high-profile athletes. In December, the FBI issued alerts regarding organized criminal groups, primarily from South America, that were believed to be behind many of these burglaries. It appears they use social media and publicly accessible information to track the whereabouts of their targets.
Warnings have surfaced from both the NFL and NBA about the increasing risk of such crimes as they affect their players. Notably, various officials have raised concerns as cases of athletes being targeted have become more prevalent.
Prominent athletes like Luka Doncic, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Burrow have also reported similar experiences in the past year, reflecting a troubling trend in sports circles. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen what further measures might be taken to enhance the security of these athletes’ homes.
