Lead detective confronts dentist accused of arranging a hit on her from prison

Prosecutors in Arapahoe County, Colorado, summoned the chief detective in the murder case of James Craig on Thursday to testify during the trial.

Detective Bobby Olson of the Aurora Police briefly took the stand, discussing the digital evidence collected after Angela Craig’s murder. James Craig is accused of poisoning Angela using protein shakes over a period of several days in March 2023.

Olson was asked to identify a hard drive from Craig’s computer, which had been seized during the investigation. The defense soon followed up with cross-examination, focusing on whether Craig had voluntarily surrendered his electronics and his willingness to cooperate with authorities.

Craig faces charges of solicitation to commit first-degree murder and perjury from a previous incident. During a pretrial session in February, evidence surfaced for two additional charges. Reportedly, Craig offered inmates $20,000 to assassinate Olson.

Observing the trial, former prosecutor Eric Fadis remarked on how threats against law enforcement are taken very seriously by prosecutors. He highlighted the gravity of any threats made against detectives, especially those stemming from defendants.

On Thursday, another witness, David Lee, a former Aurora police officer and current U.S. Secret Service analyst, testified regarding the investigation. He examined cell phones belonging to both James and Angela Craig and found numerous messages from James to third parties, including contact with a mistress and a former friend.

Further testimony came from Kathy Rodriguez, a former customer service representative for Midland Scientific, which is linked to Angela’s reported purchase of potassium cyanide. Prosecutors allege that Angela fell ill after being poisoned, with suspicions pointing toward James placing an order for the toxic substance under a specific email address.

Rodriguez detailed her conversations with Craig, who had inquired about a rush order for the cyanide, claiming it was for some official seminar. The order, however, did not arrive until days later, on March 13th, as Angela was still in the hospital.

Complicating matters, Craig is further accused of having an affair while allegedly trying to addict his wife. This relationship reportedly began a few weeks prior to her death. The couple had six children and were involved in the Mormon Church. Craig had allegedly communicated to his mistress that he was divorced when their relationship started.
