Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that deportations have begun at Alligator Alcatraz, an immigration detention facility located in the Everglades.
“When Alligator Alcatraz is fully operational, I’m hoping to see that happen soon. The Department of Homeland Security has already started moving a number of individuals out, and I think you’ll see more of this,” he said. “Isn’t this like the Ritz-Carlton, though?”
Desantis elaborated, stating, “We’re not just providing food and shelter. They are getting that, but we are aiming for all minimum standards to be upheld.” He continued, “The idea is to have a swift processing center so people can return to their home countries—this is the main purpose.”
“However, I don’t want to establish a system where one facility is at 60% capacity and another at 40%,” he added, estimating that Alligator Alcatraz could easily accommodate between 3,000 to 4,000 people.
“We haven’t seen a large number of illegal immigrants yet, but the numbers are increasing quickly,” he mentioned.
DeSantis discussed various methods of managing capacity, noting, “There are also different strategies for handling the situation. You can utilize your current infrastructure better. It’s about potentially managing the numbers effectively, perhaps around 3,000.”
He highlighted that most detainees at Alligator Alcatraz are “men of military age.”
“Many of these individuals have criminal backgrounds. That’s the current reality, and I believe we’re making significant progress,” he said, reminding citizens that Democrats often advocate for those in the country illegally.
“Have you seen these Democrats fight hard for American citizens in Florida?” he questioned. “I certainly haven’t. They’ve opposed nearly everything we’ve implemented, yet they’re fiercely defending illegal immigrants from being sent back home.”
According to Breitbart News, Alligator Alcatraz houses individuals with serious criminal records, including an MS-13 member named Oscar ‘Satan’ Sanchez and a Cuban immigrant accused of a violent crime in Florida.
