Florida Woman Charged in Bizarre Road Rage Incident Over Chicken
A woman in Florida is facing legal trouble following a strange road rage incident in which she allegedly sprayed bear mace on another driver over a chicken crossing the road. The 38-year-old, Cynthia Barreska Diaz Sosa, was taken into custody in Key West on July 9.
According to police reports, Sosa had stopped her vehicle to allow a chicken to pass. However, the other driver, identified as Perla Demiller, became frustrated when Sosa’s car obstructed the road. As Demiller attempted to navigate around Sosa’s vehicle, chaos ensued.
Witnesses, including police, noted that Sosa followed Demiller’s car and confronted her, reportedly spraying bear mace into the vehicle through the driver’s window and striking Demiller in the face.
The police charged Sosa with two counts of aggravated battery, as well as one count of robbery related to the incident. She was taken into custody that day and released the following day after posting a $35,000 bond.
Reportedly, Sosa indicated in her arrest affidavit that she was “angry” at Demiller for what she perceived as harming the chicken. Additionally, it was noted that Demiller was left disoriented and unable to see properly due to the mace, with her passengers also affected by it. A judge has since issued contact orders to protect all individuals involved.
After the incident, police managed to locate Sosa’s black Toyota Corolla and detained her. A search was conducted in front of a patrol vehicle before she was brought to the Key West Police Station, where she voluntarily provided a statement to the officers.
Court documents show that Sosa has pleaded not guilty to the charges through her attorney, who has not yet commented publicly on the case. As of now, Sosa remains out on bond but is required to adhere to certain restrictions. A court appearance is scheduled for July 24.
