Justice Department requests judge to release Epstein and Maxwell grand jury statements

On Friday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) requested that a federal court seal the transcripts from the grand jury trial related to Jeffrey Epstein.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche submitted two similar motions in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeking to release transcripts concerning a minor victim of sex trafficking and a man convicted as Epstein’s accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.

The motion raised some eyebrows, especially since the DOJ and FBI have previously noted that there was no evidence linking anyone from Epstein’s “client” list to criminal activities. They confirmed that Epstein’s death was a suicide, leading the court to conclude that sealing the testimony was necessary for “public interest.”

This request comes at a tense time, as the so-called Epstein Files are being released, which some believe could complicate matters for prominent supporters of former President Trump.

The DOJ aims to protect the identities of potential victims and remove any personal information before releasing the transcripts. It’s not common for sensitive grand jury transcripts to be made public, although if there’s enough demand, it could happen.

There’s currently no indication of how long it might take for the court to agree to seal the files, and the DOJ has not immediately responded to inquiries for comments.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal published a revealing report about a letter Trump supposedly sent to Epstein on his 50th birthday. This letter reportedly included a drawing of a naked woman along with birthday wishes, mentioning a “wonderful daily secret.”

Trump has denied any wrongdoing and is suing both reporters and Rupert Murdoch, who owns the publication.

In a recent complaint, Trump attempted to address growing criticism regarding his administration’s response to the lawsuit. He directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to release “relevant grand jury testimony” with court approval.

He stated, “Given the massive attention surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, I told Attorney General Pam Bondi to compile all pertinent grand jury testimony, subject to the court’s authorization. This charade by the Democrats needs to end!”

The administration has faced increased pressure from both Republicans and Democrats over the past few weeks to share more details about the case, leading to heightened frustration from the president. He expressed on Truth Social, “I’ve achieved more in six months than any president in our nation’s history. These are the hoaxes of Jeffrey Epstein, fueled by fake news and scheming Dems.”

He added, “Let these underdogs get to work. Don’t even consider undermining our unprecedented success.”
