Visitors to the US might encounter a new $250 'visa integrity fee'

Visitors, international students, and business travelers may soon face a $250 fee for non-immigrant visas to enter the United States.

This new fee will apply only to travelers from countries that require a visa, and it stems from the recently signed “big and beautiful” spending bill by President Trump.

As of now, there’s no official announcement regarding when the “Visa Integrity Fees” will start being collected.

The law firm noted that starting in 2026, this fee could increase by another $250 to adjust for inflation.

Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem is responsible for finalizing the fee required for entry.

Travelers will have the option to get refunds on their fees if they adhere to their visa conditions as stipulated by law.

However, it’s important to note that this provision states that compensation is mandatory, not optional, and it must be paid in addition to the existing costs related to the foreigner’s arrival and departure record, known as the “Form I-94 Fee.”

The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” has also raised the Form I-94 fee from $6 to $24. Some believe these new provisions could complicate travel plans, especially during major events in the U.S., like the 2028 Summer Olympics.

This law has been characterized as a significant step towards enhancing travel infrastructure and security in America. It emphasizes essential investments in air traffic control and customs and border protection, which can notably improve travelers’ experiences.

On the flip side, some critics argue that introducing these fees could make visiting the U.S. less attractive for foreign travelers, particularly in light of the upcoming World Cup and Summer Olympics. There’s a clear desire to make America a top travel destination, but concerns linger about how these fees will affect tourism.

These new requirements arrive amid an intensified focus from the Trump administration on tackling illegal immigration, following various controversies.
