The New York Mets are set to honor David Wright by retiring his No. 5 during a ceremony before their game against the Cincinnati Reds at 4:10 p.m.

Wright dedicated his entire 14-season career to the Mets, where he played various positions, primarily third base, and served as the team captain from 2013 to 2018. He made the decision to retire in 2018 after struggling with back injuries that sidelined him for much of the previous three years.

Throughout his career, which spanned 14 years, he earned seven All-Star selections, two Gold Glove Awards, and two Silver Slugger Awards, also receiving the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year honor.

David Wright’s No. 5 will become the 11th number retired by the Mets, coinciding with his induction into the Mets Hall of Fame today. This will place him alongside Tom Seaver, making them the only two Mets players to receive both distinctions on the same day.
