Car Crashes Into Crowd at LA Club, 30 Hurt in Disarray

Chaos Outside Nightclub in Los Angeles

In the early hours of Saturday, a chaotic scene unfolded in Los Angeles as a man dashed into a crowd near a nightclub.

At approximately 2 a.m. PST, a man careened into a group of people waiting outside Vermont Hollywood, located on the bustling Santa Monica Boulevard in East Hollywood. The incident resulted in injuries to at least 30 individuals.

One witness recounted, “When I crashed into the hot dog stand, the car came to a halt. I was trapped there. Otherwise, I might not be here to tell this story.”

People in line were also grabbing food from taco stands. The witness noted, “They were waiting to enter the club, and the taco truck was right there. The podium broke apart, and many people were affected afterward.”

Another witness, Vangelpen, described the scene as “really scary.” He added, “Everyone was just out to have a good time. They stood in line, and suddenly, cars were driving through the crowd. It was chaotic, but we also saw people stepping up to help each other.”

CNN reported that the driver, who plowed through the crowd, struck several taco stands and was surrounded by people; he was subsequently assaulted and shot. Though he received treatment at a hospital while in police custody, the shooter fled on foot along with the authorities.

The LAPD provided a description of the unidentified suspect: approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and likely armed with a silver revolver.

Maria Medrano, a witness who worked nearby, mentioned that a fight had broken out shortly before the chaos ensued. She reflected, “When I crashed into the hot dog stand, the car was stopped. I was stuck there. If not for that, who knows where I’d be now?”

Reports indicated that among the injured, seven individuals were in serious condition, while others ranged from fair to serious and some declined hospital transport.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass described the events as “a tragic tragedy,” expressing gratitude to over 100 LAFD and LAPD personnel who rushed to the scene to assist. “The hearts of Angelenos are heavy this morning,” she said.

As of now, the investigation into the incident is continuing, with reports noting that 124 LAFD officials were dispatched to the scene.
