Gabbard Claims Obama Administration Manipulated Intelligence
National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard shared significant findings from newly released confidential documents, stating they would provide “overwhelming evidence” that the Obama administration laid the groundwork for the Trump-Russia investigation following the 2016 election.
“The implications are not exactly historic,” Gabbard remarked during a recent appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures.” She noted that over 100 documents unveiled Friday indicate how this complex situation was orchestrated by President Obama just weeks before he left office, after Trump had been elected. She emphasized that this isn’t merely a partisan issue.
The documents suggest that the Obama administration “manufactured” intelligence related to alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Gabbard’s office included claims that there was no evidence substantiating that Russia tried to influence the vote count in the 2016 election. While some Intelligence officials suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed to assist Trump’s victory, Gabbard maintains that these shifts in narrative are driven more by political motives, rather than new evidence.
“The narrative claiming that Russia helped Donald Trump win was produced after earlier assessments suggested otherwise,” she commented. “What President Obama and his national security team effectively did was undermine the will of the American people, destabilizing our democratic system, and engaging in what could be seen as a coup against Trump, who was duly elected.”
Investigations Take Aim at Brennan and Comey
The documents involve several key figures from the Obama administration, including intelligence leaders James Clapper, former CIA director John Brennan, former FBI chief James Comey, and former national security adviser Susan Rice.
Gabbard confirmed plans to forward all unpublished documents to the Department of Justice and the FBI for potential criminal investigations. When questioned about the likelihood of charges, she responded, “I intend to ensure accountability.”
“We’re beginning to see some whistleblowers step forward now, as they seek justice. Those involved in this troubling plot against the American people need to face the consequences, regardless of their power.”
Some Democrats, like Connecticut Rep. Jim Himes, criticized Gabbard’s assertions as “essentially baseless.” Previous outreach to Obama and other implicated figures yielded no responses.
