New York City Mayoral Candidate Remains Silent After Patrol Officer Shooting

Zohran Mamdani, a socialist candidate for mayor in New York City, has not commented for nearly two days following the shooting of an unemployed patrol officer. The officer was shot in the face by a Dominican man, Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, who had been previously deported.

So far, Mamdani has not released any official statements on his social media platforms or campaign websites. Fox News Digital reached out to his campaign but did not receive a response quickly. According to police reports, the suspect was captured on video approaching officers who were conversing near the water.

Mamdani Confronted Over “Communist” Label

On the streets of New York, Mamdani has avoided addressing the label of “Communist” that has been associated with him.

The unarmed officer involved in the incident attempted to defend himself, resulting in a shootout. He was injured but is currently stable and expected to recover. Nunez also sustained injuries; he was shot in his foot during the exchange and later taken to a Bronx hospital.

DHS Raises Concerns About Nunez

The Department of Homeland Security noted that Nunez has outstanding warrants in Massachusetts, along with a history of felony arrests.

In the aftermath of the shooting, former President Donald Trump commented, referring to the suspect as “an illegal alien monster” and criticizing the current administration for releasing him.

Mamdani has faced backlash for previous remarks suggesting cooperation with Trump on immigration enforcement, including a controversial stance on having ICE officials “masked” to deport those residing in the U.S. illegally.

Recently, Mamdani announced that he would be traveling to Uganda to celebrate his marriage. He expressed regret for his absence and indicated a desire to return to the political arena.

Federal immigration officials have reported increased scrutiny, with incidents of violence against them rising sharply. Recent attacks include an ambush in McAllen, Texas, where a police officer was injured, and ongoing concerns about the safety of ICE agents. Reports indicate an 830% increase in attacks on ICE since last year.

Fox News Digital reached out to various agencies for comments but did not receive immediate replies.
