Gerry Turner believes the new Golden Bachelor is limiting himself by setting an age restriction.

The recent lead of “The Golden Bachelor,” Mel Owens, is causing quite a stir. He expressed concerns over feeling like he’s “cheating on himself” if he goes through with plans to eliminate competitors who are 60 or older. Many, including fans, were surprised to hear about this age limit, as it seems a bit at odds with the spirit of the show.

Owens shared his viewpoint on how he thinks women over 60 have a lot to offer, suggesting, “I think he will have a change of heart. There’s charm and bounty in women of that age.” Reflecting on his interactions with contestants, he described each woman as a unique gift, enriching his experiences in various ways.

Age Limit Controversy

Despite some pushback from producers, Owens maintains a strict age range for contestants. He disclosed during a podcast that he initially requested an age bracket of 45 to 60, only to be told that it should be more in line with the show’s theme. “Oh, Mel, you can’t… this is the Golden Bachelor,” he recalled being told.

Moreover, he emphasized that he expects contestants to be in good health, while also holding back some of his more critical thoughts about physical appearances, suggesting that they should avoid relying on “artificial” enhancements.

Turner’s Perspective

Jerry Turner, a previous Golden Bachelor star, commented on Owens’ statements, asserting that it could be a mistake to limit options based on age. “If he cuts over 60, I think he’s cheating on himself,” Turner said. He hopes Owens will embrace each individual, ignoring age numbers, and treat everyone kindly.

Turner himself navigated a rapid relationship journey during the show, marrying shortly after the season finale, only to experience a swift divorce. Even with that, he expressed gratitude for his experience, wishing that Owens could take inspiration from his own path.

Owens is currently facing significant life challenges himself; he was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer last year. But he shared how this has shifted his perspective. “Every day is a gift,” he remarked, vowing to not shy away from new experiences. He even mentioned that he recently started dating again and is hopeful about finding happiness with his new partner.

Turner reflected on his life changes, having found joy again amidst struggles, and noted how essential it is for Owens to approach his own journey with openness and respect.
