Ellen DeGeneres Considers Future Plans, Reflects on Her Past Show

Ellen DeGeneres hasn’t completely closed the door on the idea of hosting another talk show. During a live chat with broadcaster Richard Bacon, the former daytime host, now 67, expressed some nostalgia for her earlier show but feels that the traditional format might not resonate with audiences today.

“I want to do it again, but it seems like people are more focused on their phones rather than television,” she shared. This change in viewing habits is something she’s been wrestling with.

Since relocating to the UK in November 2024, DeGeneres has been taking her time exploring her next career steps and has been quite deliberate about her choices. She mentioned wanting to have fun, but in a lighthearted way admitted, “I like my chickens, but, you know, things are a little boring right now.”

The comedian had a significant run with “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” spanning 19 seasons before it concluded in 2022—two years after claims of a toxic work environment surfaced in 2020. In her first episode of the 18th season, she addressed the allegations directly, remarking on her own growth and admitting to some of her shortcomings.

“I want to talk about it without coming across as a victim,” she noted, candidly addressing how the negativity affected her. She reflected on how it felt to have her character questioned and labeled as “mean,” expressing that these perceptions were tough to shake off.

Looking back, she described the end of her show as a “certainly unpleasant way to conclude.” When discussing her recent move to the countryside of the UK, she indicated that the election of Donald Trump had a significant impact on that decision. “We arrived right before the election and woke to some very emotional messages from friends, leading us to decide to stay,” she recalled.

DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, have taken a shine to their new surroundings, emphasizing the beauty of the countryside and the simplicity of life there. “Everything just feels good here,” she remarked, enjoying the slower pace and how animals are treated.

They’ve also embraced some rural charm, as DeGeneres humorously narrated, “I saw snow for the first time in my life!” and noted that they brought along some of their pets, including chickens and even sheep for a couple of weeks.
