Draymond Green expresses regret to Barkley following on-air comment during 'Inside the NBA'

Draymond Green Clarifies Comments on Charles Barkley

This week, Draymond Green stirred the pot by critiquing Charles Barkley’s late-career days during a segment on “Inside the NBA.” Green specifically mentioned Barkley’s time with the Houston Rockets.

“I really just hope I don’t look like myself in a Rockets uniform,” he remarked, referring to Barkley’s critique that Green’s team, the Golden State Warriors, has missed its championship window. Following some backlash, Green felt it necessary to elaborate on his comments about Barkley.

“What Chuck has poked fun at is really his last two years with the Rockets,” Green noted in a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show.” He emphasized that his intent was never to imply he was superior to Barkley. “If it’s interpreted as disrespect, then I’m willing to apologize. Disrespect was certainly not my intention.”

Barkley had suggested that, due to the age of the Warriors’ core players, Green might need to seek a different team if he hopes to secure a fifth championship. “The Warriors are finished,” he stated on May 6. “It’s natural for older teams to fade; you have your moment, but it doesn’t last forever.”

When asked about Green’s comments on Arizona Sports 98.7FM’s “Bickley and Marotta,” Barkley responded that he didn’t feel the need to react to every criticism. He acknowledged Green’s talent but maintained they aren’t on the same tier. “I didn’t take offense; I find it amusing,” Barkley said.

Barkley also discussed his own NBA journey, reflecting on his trade to the Rockets in the 1996-97 season after a successful stint with the Suns. Retiring at 36, he left the league with impressive averages—22.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.

Currently, Green is 36, while his longtime teammate Stephen Curry recently turned 38. Perhaps both players are facing their own crossroads, similar to Barkley back in the day.
