Trump Calls for Justice Department Action Against Obama
On Tuesday, President Trump suggested that former President Obama should be directly targeted by the Justice Department, alleging he tampered with the Intelligence Report concerning Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, submitted a criminal referral to the DOJ about the report released on Friday, accusing officials from the Obama administration of engaging in a “rebellious conspiracy.”
During a meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump pointed to Obama as the person the DOJ should investigate. “From what I gather, it’s going to be President Obama. He initiated it,” Trump stated, adding that then-Vice President Joe Biden, former FBI Director James Comey, former DNI Director James Clapper, and others were also involved.
He mentioned, “If you examine those documents, it was laid out for him, and it was President Obama behind it. It wasn’t just a random group; it was them. The key figures were President Obama, Barack Hussein Obama.”
“He’s guilty, no doubt about that,” Trump claimed. “This was treasonous. That’s all one can think of.”
Trump indicated that Gabbard had told him more documents would be revealed, and he referred to Obama as the “mastermind” behind the situation.
Friday’s memo referenced other former officials, including Clapper, Brennan, and Comey, alluding to the speculation of conspiracy between Trump’s campaign and Moscow as a “horror,” despite previous claims of investigating Russian interference.
In March, Trump had mandated the declassification of “all files related to Crossfire Hurricane,” which pertained to the FBI’s investigation into the 2016 election’s Russian interference.
The president was also asked about Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche contacting the lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex offender linked with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. He claimed he was unaware but mentioned Gabbard’s report.
“These witch hunts are something President Obama should address if he gets the chance to catch President Gabbard. What did you do to our country in 2016?” Trump questioned.
He also remarked that he had “caught” former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton but let her off the hook because of her connection to a former president. “Now is the right time to pursue these people. Obama was caught red-handed,” he added. “What they did in 2016 and 2020 is highly criminal, at the very top level, so that’s what you should really focus on.”
