In-N-Out’s Owner Relocates Family to Tennessee

Lynsi Snyder, the owner of In-N-Out Burger, has announced plans to move her family from California to Tennessee as part of the company’s expansion efforts towards the east. She expressed that, despite some appealing aspects of California, it falls short of being “family-friendly.”

During a recent chat on the Ally Beth Stucky “Friendly” podcast, Snyder remarked, “There are a lot of great things in California, but raising a family is not easy.”

“We’re building an office in Franklin. I’m actually moving there,” she added. “It’s not easy to do business here… It’s great to have an office there.”

Currently, In-N-Out has two primary offices in California—one in Irvine and the other in Baldwin Park. However, the Irvine office is set to close by 2030, leading to a consolidation under one roof.

Throughout her interview, Snyder reflected on the challenges of operating in San Francisco during the pandemic. Many restaurants, including hers, struggled with enforcing vaccine checks.

“There was so much pressure and hoops we had to fly around… It was really awful; it definitely felt like we were holding the line and saying, ‘We’re not going to police our customers.’ We were closed for a bit, but it was worth it,” she said.

“My top priority is to maintain the same company my grandparents started,” she continued. “I want to continue with the legacy. We’re growing and much bigger than when they started, so growth is healthy and necessary.”

In-N-Out currently operates 400 locations across Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, and Utah. Recently, the company had to close its Auckland location because it had become too “dangerous” for its employees.
