Gaza Humanitarian Foundation Reaches Out to UN Critic for Aid Collaboration

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) is attempting to connect with one of its vocal critics, aiming for collaboration on aid efforts in the region. On Tuesday, Rev. Johnny Moore, the chair of GHF’s executive committee, sent a letter to Tom Fletcher, who serves as the UN Humanitarian and Emergency Relief Coordinator.

He mentioned, “The humanitarian situation in Gaza is getting worse. While a significant amount of aid has arrived, much of it is either sitting in warehouses, being handed over incorrectly, or outright looted.” Moore contended that the situation seems more dire than how UN agencies portrayed it, which cited stagnant aid due to “lack of permission” and security concerns.

Moore noted that over 400 aid distribution points managed by the UN and its partners are closed. Kitchens remain inactive, trucks are idling, and convoys face frequent looting. “This isn’t just about access—it’s more about capability and operational issues,” he added. He also expressed his worries over the reaction from various non-aligned organizations, saying they overlooked a more significant systemic problem.

In a related statement, Lt. Col. Nadab Shoshani from the Israeli Defense Force indicated that the assistance from 950 trucks would be beneficial and would be distributed to Gazan civilians by international organizations present in the area.

GHF Criticizes UN’s Approach

In response to the UN’s criticism, GHF spokesperson Chapinfay explained that the foundation was created to address past mistakes made by international organizations. “The UN has been doing this for a long time, and that’s precisely why we’re here. We aim to restore some trust that has been lost,” he stated. According to him, GHF has successfully distributed around 85 million meals since beginning its operations in the area two months ago.

Fletcher, a notable critic of GHF, previously described the organization’s activities as “fig leaves for further violence and evacuation,” questioning its intentions. Since then, both he and UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese have criticized GHF’s practices, with Albanese labeling some areas as “death traps.”

Mistakes reported by media outlets, according to Fay, included misreported violence at distribution sites. He remarked that there had only been a couple of incidents that resulted in injuries, asserting that the security personnel employed by GHF are highly trained and know when to engage and when to refrain from using force.

Fay also addressed the IDF’s responsibility for security outside distribution locations, commenting on the need for clarity about any civilian victims. The IDF has told media that they are reviewing how incidents involving civilians occurred during aid distribution.
