Parsons Responds to Jones’ Comments
Mika Parsons had some candid words for Jerry Jones after the Cowboys owner made a not-so-subtle jab at him during a recent press conference. It looks like there’s some tension brewing here.
Jones commented to the media that Parsons’ injury played a role in the delay of negotiations for a contract extension. On the flip side, Parsons indicated there wasn’t “a lot of movement” in the discussions when he spoke to reporters on Tuesday.
During his arrival at camp, Parsons participated in limited on-field training and went through warm-ups with the squad.
“I’ve expressed a desire to be here. I always want to be here, but at the end of the day, they are the ones who write the checks,” Parsons mentioned. “Let’s see if they truly want me here.”
When asked whether attending camp would aid his contract negotiations, Parsons seemed to challenge Jones’ comments. His response was assertive.
“I think they have their timeline for when they want things wrapped up,” he said, referring to Jones and the team’s management. “For me, this is about my teammates and myself—not Jerry, not Stephen.”
Jones mentioned his previous encounters with players who faced significant injuries, citing Parsons’ situation last year and also referring to quarterback Dak Prescott. Parsons had a productive year, playing 13 games with 12 sacks and 12 tackles.
Jones remarked, “Just because we signed him doesn’t mean he’ll stay. He was seriously hurt for six games last year. I remember paying top dollar for players who have been sidelined, like Dak.”
These comments sparked outrage from former defensive star JJ Watt, who took to social media to critique Jones. It seems this issue isn’t just simmering under the surface. Parsons also reflected on how other teams treat their star players, wishing for a similar approach from the Cowboys.
“When you look around the league, it’s clear some teams take care of their best. I really hope we see that same kind of energy here,” Parsons stated.
