Tom Brady’s Comical Approach to Dealing with Sweat

Here’s another amusing instance showcasing Tom Brady’s unique take on dealing with sweaty centers.

During a recent episode of the “Named Game” podcast, former Patriots offensive lineman Ted Karras shared a hilarious story about an encounter he had with Brady during a game. He mentioned how Brady would pull aside any center, no matter their background, to instruct them on how to manage sweat.

“Tom has this thing; he takes all the centers aside. Even if it’s an undrafted player, he’ll show you how to fold your towel and tuck it in,” Karras recounted. “He literally got in my face, calling me a sweaty pig.” There was a clear urgency in Brady’s voice.

Karras added an unexpected twist to the story, saying, “Then he’d pull down my pants and powder my backside with baby powder right in front of everyone.” It was quite the spectacle.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Karras admitted that he couldn’t refuse his Hall of Fame quarterback’s requests. “I mean, there were like 15,000 fans at Gillette Stadium watching. But I always did what he said,” he recalled.

Interestingly, Karras isn’t the only center to have had such experiences with Brady. Dan Connolly, who played for the Patriots alongside Brady for six seasons, also had a memorable encounter. He revealed that Brady would often take a towel and shove it down his pants after wiping the sweat off his own body.

“He literally stood behind me and pushed the towel into my pants,” Connolly shared. “I spent the whole game feeling like I was carrying a loaded diaper. It was the most uncomfortable experience ever, but he was fixated on ensuring our pants were dry.”

This meticulous preference didn’t stop when Brady joined the Buccaneers. During his first training camp with the team, his quirky habit was highlighted on social media. Offensive lineman Ryan Jensen tweeted, “First fold the towel once, then fold it over yourself again. Place the cracks down and put them in baby powder. No more butt sweat.”

These amusing anecdotes paint a vivid picture of Brady’s focus on avoiding sweat during games, and it’s great to see how light-hearted he can be about such a serious sport.
