Authorities report that Travis Hunter Sr., the father of NFL rookie and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, has been arrested for breaching his probation conditions.
A warrant for Hunter Sr.’s arrest was issued on July 10, stemming from an incident on June 28, when officials indicated he was “too far from the surveillance device to be accurately tracked,” as noted in court filings.
The 39-year-old, who faces charges related to drugs and firearms from a November 2023 incident, was taken into custody in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday. Current records state he is being held at West Palm Beach Prison without bond.
According to a report from a probation officer, Hunter Sr.’s tracking device alarm was triggered on June 28 between 8:07 PM and 8:18 PM.
When contacted by the surveillance center, Hunter Sr. claimed he was in his bedroom while the device was in another room. Three days later, he mentioned he had left the device elsewhere and was trying to locate it.
On July 4, probation officers tested the device and confirmed it was functioning correctly. Hunter Sr. explained to officers that he had “moved too much and forgot about it,” as stated in the court documents.
The judge concluded he violated his probation terms by not adhering to the electronic monitoring rules.
Previously, Hunter Sr. was arrested during a traffic stop in Palm Beach County in 2023, where police discovered a firearm and drugs in his vehicle. He was subsequently sentenced to 90 days in prison, followed by three years of probation that included a year of house arrest.
Though he missed the ceremony honoring his son’s Heisman Trophy in New York last December, he received permission to attend this year’s NFL Draft in Green Bay, where his son, a standout player at the University of Colorado, was selected second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
