ICE is providing six-figure salaries and $50K bonuses as it increases hiring to support deportations

ICE Adopts New Incentives Amid Recruitment Push

ICE is embracing a significant influx of funding from President Trump’s recent legislation. With this, top recruits are seeing substantial signing bonuses of $50,000 and salaries reaching six figures, all aimed at enhancing mass expulsion initiatives.

A noteworthy trend is the return of many retired agents. In fact, a number of them have spoken to the Post about coming back to exploit these new benefits.

Interestingly, it seems there might be fewer new recruits on the horizon, as many positions are offering base salaries between $50,000 and $90,000 annually.

The agency is contemplating the hiring of 10,000 additional agents, backed by $75 billion in new funds to support Trump’s extensive deportation agenda.

Scott Mekowski, a former ICE aide in New York, remarked, “They’re the ones who are accused of New York,” indicating a specific focus on certain areas.

One retired agent, who preferred to remain anonymous due to a pending reapplication to ICE, mentioned familiarity with “four or five” other former agents eager to rejoin the agency, all for salaries exceeding $100,000 a year.

During the Biden administration, many agents distanced themselves from their roles, particularly in the Border Patrol. Now, a number of them are returning.

“It felt like a great opportunity to re-enter the field; many of us thought we still had more to contribute,” shared the former agent.

ICE is offering a $10,000 signing bonus for returning agents. An extra $10,000 bonus awaits those who apply by August 1st, along with a $10,000 annual bonus for returning to operations over the next three years.

Additionally, the agency is planning a “double coverage waiver” permitting former agents to retain their pension and benefits after retirement.

This increase in officers will potentially assist the agency in achieving its ambitious target of 3,000 arrests.

A retired agent noted, “If you hire enough individuals to return, you can focus on investigations without pulling resources from other areas.” However, he expressed concern over the sustainability of this approach, stating, “Using an all-encompassing immigration initiative could lead to burnout, especially if everyone is working six days a week.”
