Heroic Crossing Guard Rescues Child from Crash
A school crossing guard in Southwest Philadelphia has been making headlines after he saved a child from the wreckage of a car crash. Jamel Ransom shared his experience in a lively interview, where he humorously described the incident while licking an ice cream cone to calm his nerves.
This took place on Tuesday afternoon, as Ransom was on duty outside an elementary school. A stolen truck ran a red light and collided with an SUV near the playground.
His vibrant interview quickly caught public attention. He was seen enjoying his ice cream while demonstrating how he “swayed and weaved” during the chaotic moment.
“He ran a red light and hit a woman, causing a T-bone fracture,” Ransom recalled, playfully adjusting his crosswalk hat. He noted, “I’m swaying and weaving,” mimicking his swift movements at the scene.
Filled with gratitude, he exclaimed, “Thank you, Jesus! I’m just grateful to be alive!” as he took another lick of his ice cream.
Ransom recounted how he pulled a frantic child from the wreckage. “I had to get the kid out—what’s his name?” he chuckled, reflecting on the urgency of the moment. “He was stuck, and I got him out, then took a breather because my mind was racing,” he confessed.
Interestingly, he attributed his lucky escape to the nice weather, saying, “It was 82 degrees, and I was in the shade,” all while continuing to lick his ice cream during the talk.
Describing the incident as “crazy,” he admitted, “My adrenaline is still pumping.” His expressive and animated interview quickly went viral, with many people admiring his actions and celebrating him as a local hero.
Comments on social media reflected appreciation for his bravery. One user remarked, “He deserves an award for saving a child’s life, so she went and bought herself an ice cream.” Another said, “There’s a lot to unpack here. I love my country, Philadelphia.”
Another commenter noted, “If I knew that man was my child crossing the guard, I wouldn’t lose any sleep.” One declared, “This just made my day,” adding to the wave of support for Ransom.
Reports indicate that the stolen truck sped through a red light before crashing into an SUV, which then collided with a parked car, as confirmed by Philadelphia police. Footage from the scene showed the truck somewhat wrecked on the playground with a crowd of children and adults nearby.
A spokesperson for the Philadelphia School District reassured that there were no children in the area at the time of the accident, and thankfully, no injuries to students were reported. Further details about any injuries to individuals in the vehicles or potential arrests have not yet been released.
