Jets' Justin Fields escapes major injury after being taken off the field on a cart

Justin Fields Avoids Serious Injury During Jets Training Camp

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields seems to have escaped a serious pre-season setback. The team confirmed on Thursday that Fields, 26, dislocated his right toe during practice but fortunately avoided more severe injuries.

Earlier that day, he had to leave the field during team drills, which raised immediate concerns.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned he thinks someone may have stepped on Fields’ toes. However, Glenn expressed a desire to review the footage to confirm the cause. He also noted that Tyrod Taylor is ready to step in if needed.

Fields, who signed a two-year contract worth $40 million after replacing Aaron Rodgers, played in 10 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, starting six. He helped the team achieve a 4-2 record during his starts, completing 65.8% of his passes for 1,106 yards, totaling five touchdowns with just one interception.

Additionally, Fields showcased his running ability, carrying the ball 62 times for 189 yards and another five touchdowns last year. Despite his efforts, he was eventually benched in favor of Russell Wilson.

The Jets brought Fields in with the hope he could be their starting quarterback, especially after releasing Rodgers, who had underperformed in his two seasons with the team.

As of now, the Jets have three quarterbacks on the roster: Taylor, Adrian Martinez, and Brady Cook. Should Fields need to sit out for any length of time, Taylor is fully capable of stepping in.

At 35, Taylor has had a 14-season NFL career, starting in 58 games with a record of 28-28-1. Last season, he took the field for two games with the Jets, completing 17 of 22 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns. In 2023, he started five games for the New York Giants, posting a 2-3 record with a completion rate of 64.4%, amassing 1,341 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
