Rep. Riley Moore (R-WV) aims to honor the military and women who served during President Donald Trump’s second term amid the border crisis and its aftermath.
The first-term congressman introduced the Loyal Patriot Campaign Medal Act on Friday, as reported by Breitbart News. This act mandates that the Secretary of Defense create and distribute new medals to military personnel who have been active on the southern border since 2018.
In March, Moore visited Arizona with a group of lawmakers to inspect the southern border and speak with officials on the ground. During this trip, he connected with several members of the West Virginia State Guard who have been deployed in that area.
The discussions there motivated Moore to propose his legislation.
“When we toured the southern border earlier this year, we witnessed firsthand the contributions of our service members in combating drug smuggling and human trafficking,” Moore stated. “While I was there, I met some National Guard members from West Virginia, thousands of miles from home, working on the frontline to protect our country from border issues.”
Just a few months later, his proposal is now written and moving forward.
This initiative follows a notably successful period at the border.
Since President Trump took office, illegal border crossings have decreased significantly—by 99%, marking the lowest levels in decades. Additionally, no undocumented immigrants have been released into the U.S. interior for the last two months.
The military played a crucial role in these developments.
“President Trump correctly deployed troops to address the border crisis. Thanks to his leadership, we now experience an unmatched level of border security and a sharp drop in illegal immigration,” Moore remarked. “Our forces were instrumental in achieving our mission, and that’s why we’re proud to push this effort to recognize their contributions by awarding the new Loyal Patriot Campaign Medal to those who served at the border.”
