Bill Self Hospitalized Following Heart Procedure
Bill Self, the head coach of the Kansas men’s basketball team, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after experiencing various health symptoms. A university spokesperson revealed that the 62-year-old coach underwent a procedure that involved the insertion of two stents.
Fortunately, he is reportedly doing well and is expected to be discharged soon.
“The procedure has gone smoothly, and we anticipate a full recovery,” the university stated. “He seems fine, and we’re hopeful for his release from the hospital shortly.”
This isn’t the first time the coach has faced health concerns. Back in 2023, he missed the Big 12 and NCAA Division I basketball tournaments due to chest discomfort and balance issues. It’s a little concerning, honestly. I mean, health should always come first, right?
Self’s recent procedure involved a catheter measurement and stent placement to address blocked arteries. He has been at the helm of the Kansas program since 2003, leading the team to two national championships and 14 Big 12 regular season titles from 2004 to 2018.
In 2017, Self was honored by his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, which I think is a testament not just to his skill as a coach, but also his resilience. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery and a safe return to the court.
