Record Low Migrant Arrests Reported
Officials are highlighting yet another record low for the number of migrants arrested after illegally crossing between ports of entry. On July 20th, Border Patrol reported encountering only 88 immigrants, a decrease from the previously set low of 112 just a month earlier.
The US Customs and Border Protection shared this information on social media, labeling it a “historic low.” This figure marks a 24% drop from the previous low recorded on June 29th.
“The deterrents work,” a representative commented, adding that the world is aware of the seriousness with which the US addresses illegal immigration now.
Earlier this week, reports indicated that the Trump administration had achieved a record low for arrests in a single month. The June figures indicated that agents apprehended 6,072 immigrants, averaging about 202 per day. On June 29th, the one-day record of 112 arrests was set.
A Friday update from CBP noted that Shatters recorded 88 arrests on July 20th, which reflects that 24% decrease.
CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott expressed in a statement that, through various measures—like closing illegal crossings and targeting fentanyl seizures—CBP has enforced significant consequences, all under this administration’s focus on protecting the nation rigorously.
In the past couple of months, there was an instance of an immigrant needing hospitalization after crossing the border illegally. Comparatively, during the “catch and release” period of the Biden administration, a staggering 50-70% of migrants were often released into the US, leading to thousands being left in American cities without adequate vetting.
