Heroic Intervention at Walmart Stabbing in Michigan

A bystander, armed with a firearm, was captured on video stopping a knife-wielding man who reportedly stabbed 11 people at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, on Saturday. The man, who his family identified as Derrick Perry, was seen in the footage pointing his weapon at the suspect while urging him to “Drop the Knife!” Perry, a Marine, took action along with other bystanders during the intense incident.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michaelcia praised the actions of Perry and the others involved, calling what they did “amazing” at a press briefing. Thankfully, they managed to subdue the suspect and detain him without anyone getting hurt before authorities arrived.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Bradford James Gill from Afton, Michigan, allegedly entered the store with a folding knife and a 3.5-inch blade. He is now facing serious charges, including terrorism and eleven counts of assault with intent to murder.

Fortunately, all of the victims, ranging in age from 29 to 84, are expected to survive. According to officials from Munson Healthcare, the conditions of the victims varied, with a few receiving treatment and others, thankfully, being released.

A Facebook post from a local group acknowledged Perry’s bravery, referring to him as a hero. His daughter described the moment as a source of “pride,” while his stepdaughter-in-law referred to him as a “true hero.” Even the Gun Rights Association recognized Perry’s courage, calling him a “good man with a gun.” It seems his actions have made quite an impact.

As the investigation continues, the motive behind the stabbings remains unclear. It’s quite unsettling when such incidents strike in places where people feel safe—like a Walmart.
