Justice Department Files Fraud Charge Against Judge Boasberg
The Justice Department has brought a fraud charge against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, suggesting that he should be removed from immigration cases due to what they call “inappropriate” remarks about President Trump.
In a statement, Attorney General Pam Bondi noted, “We have filed a complaint of fraud against Judge James Boasberg for making inappropriate public comments about President Trump and his administration.” She shared this on social media.
The complaint, authored by Bondi’s Chief of Staff Chad Mizelle, was directed to the Chief Justice of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Sri Srinivasan. It mentions comments Boasberg reportedly made during a judicial meeting on March 11, where he allegedly strayed from typical discussions to influence others regarding his view that the Trump administration could ignore federal court decisions, potentially leading to a “constitutional crisis.”
Mizelle criticized Boasberg’s remarks, arguing they were especially egregious given that the Trump administration had adhered to court orders. He claimed, “Judge Boasberg failed to identify any actual violations of court orders to support his unwarranted predictions.”
Boasberg, appointed by former President Barack Obama, is said to have conveyed his views shortly before presiding over a case involving Trump’s allegations regarding immigration law. The judge reportedly expressed concerns about violations of a March 15 order halting deportation flights to El Salvador.
Mizelle asserted that Boasberg’s statements and subsequent actions undermined the norms of judicial conduct, thereby jeopardizing public trust in judicial impartiality, and warranted a formal investigation.
In a recent report, it was mentioned that Trump criticized Boasberg as a “very conflicted” and “radical left” judge. After a post on social media, Trump expressed, “This judge… should be fired up each!!”
A representative from the D.C. District Court has not yet commented on the situation.
