The Vice President’s half-brother has criticized local leaders in Cincinnati for their handling of a brawl that occurred over the weekend.
“We need to examine the core issue here. It’s mismanagement, plain and simple. This reflects a broader incompetence that trickles down from the top,” stated Corey Bowman, who is campaigning for mayor, in a recent interview.
During the incident, five individuals were arrested, and video footage revealed disturbing scenes, including a man being trampled and women being assaulted. One woman appeared to hit her head hard on the pavement as she fell.
Living just six blocks away from where the altercation took place, Bowman expressed concerns about the rise in violent crime in the city. He shared his surprise and fear about the reactions to such violence with Anchor Henna Dova, who was substituting for Vargas.
“It’s shocking; I honestly can’t wrap my head around it. It’s frightening to think about how people will respond,” he said. “But as someone living so close to the event, these images aren’t just alarming; they remind me of the ongoing crime spikes we’ve seen all summer.”
Interestingly, Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa A. Tegge reported that only one call was made to the police regarding the violence. Bowman voiced his doubts about this claim, having heard from locals who insisted they had tried to contact 911.
“I received a screenshot that showed the police chief stating he received just one call at 3:06 a.m. That’s puzzling, considering I’ve spoken to others who definitely called,” Bowman mentioned.
He also noted that the dispatcher was allegedly unhelpful during the incident.
Moreover, Bowman suggested that City Manager Cheryl Long should be dismissed from her role, arguing that she is unfit to oversee the situation.
“There’s a solid track record showing this administration is not equipped for the challenges at hand,” he remarked. “They’ve launched various initiatives that haven’t done anything to benefit the community.”
The Hill has reached out to Long’s office for a response.
