Border Patrol Reports Decline in Illegal Crossings

US Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks shared that there has been a noticeable drop in the number of illegal crossings at the border, particularly between designated entry points. Over the first 27 days of July, agents apprehended more than 4,000 individuals.

“Our enforcement measures are showing results—our borders are more secure, and deterrence is underway,” Chief Banks noted in a recent social media update.

The Chief reported that his team made 4,022 arrests of migrants who crossed the border illegally in this time frame, averaging fewer than 150 per day. If this trend persists until the end of the month, it could lead to another record low, possibly surpassing 4,600 arrests.

Earlier this month, it was mentioned that during President Donald Trump’s administration, border security was notably strong, with 6,072 arrests recorded in June, representing a 15% decrease from the previous low in March. The figures for July show a potential 24% drop compared to the same month last year.

In June, agents set a record for the lowest number of daily arrests, reporting only 112 illegal immigrants. This record was further diminished by July 20th, when only 88 individuals were apprehended.

“These deterrents are effective,” the Chief added. “The world now understands that the United States is serious about addressing illegal immigration.”

In a statement, CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott remarked on the agency’s wide-ranging efforts, from closing illegal entry points to seizing fentanyl, emphasizing that they are delivering significant consequences in various ways, aiming to protect the country with unwavering resolve.

For over two months, one individual caught illegally crossing the border required hospitalization in the US. According to reports from the previous administration, during the “catch and release” period, a significant portion—50-70%—of encountered immigrants were routinely released into the US, leading to many being left without adequate screening in American cities.
