Trump expresses sympathy for victims of Manhattan mass shooting: 'I am thinking of the families'

Tragic Shooting in Midtown Manhattan

A shooting incident unfolded on Monday in Midtown Manhattan, resulting in the death of a police officer and three civilians.

Authorities revealed that the gunman targeted a high-rise office building that houses several major financial firms, including the NFL headquarters.

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tish has named the suspect as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura, a resident of Las Vegas.

The violent episode initiated in the lobby of the Park Avenue Tower where the shooter engaged with NYPD officers.

“He took cover behind a pillar and then began shooting at a woman,” Tish explained.

As the rampage escalated, the suspect shot a security guard who attempted to intervene before making his way to the 33rd floor.

“After that, he moved down the corridor and shot himself in the chest,” Tish added.

Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old officer from Bangladesh, was fatally shot during the attack. Mayor Eric Adams stated that Islam had been with the NYPD for nearly four years.

“He was dedicated to his duty. His courage saved lives,” Adams remarked. “He made the ultimate sacrifice, shot down while protecting the city he served.”

Islam leaves behind a pregnant wife and two young children.

Mayor Adams noted, “It seems he was looking for NFL employees, but the timing was peculiar. It was after hours, so many offices were empty.” The suspect allegedly attempted to access the wrong elevator.

Interestingly, Tamura carried a note expressing grievances over his purported brain damage from football, even though he never played in the NFL. He mentioned having chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and criticized the league for hiding the risks involved.

“Study my brain for CTE. The league prioritized profits over players’ health,” he wrote.

He also referred to a former Steelers player diagnosed with CTE in his note.

President Donald Trump reacted to the incident, expressing his sorrow for the victims and commending law enforcement’s efforts to understand the motives behind the tragedy.

“This senseless act of violence in a beloved place has shocked us,” Trump stated.

Currently, the NYPD and federal agencies are continuing their investigation into the gunman’s actions, and it appears he acted alone.
