The Rise of “Gooners” and the Culture of Influence
If you’re not acquainted with the term “Gooner,” it refers to a man with a casual obsession with pornography or explicit content. For instance, picture a 35-year-old who spends his time subscribing to OnlyFans, or college students who scroll through Pornhub between classes. Yep, you guessed it—Gooner.
Now, let me introduce you to Harlot Bonney Blue, whose online presence might just shatter any remaining blissful ignorance. To put it simply, she gained notoriety for sleeping with over 1,000 men in just about 24 hours, documenting the whole thing along the way.
I really dislike this, though. Unfortunately, she managed to go viral during a rather questionable escapade while visiting Mexico for spring break.
Bonnie was spotted in Cancun, hanging out with a college guy, snapping selfies in hotel rooms and pools. The men around her appeared mesmerized, vying for pictures with her. Some even tried to snap pictures from unusual angles.
But there’s a darker side to this scenario.
First, the quest for social media fame can be incredibly hazardous. Influencers alter perceptions of right and wrong, pushing individuals to act in ways they normally wouldn’t. The temptation is real—things like chasing likes and followers can distort one’s moral compass.
So why does this happen? On social media, there’s often a reward for being provocative or edgy. Taking selfies with someone like Bonnie Blue might seem like a way to elevate one’s status, yet it can diminish the dignity of the men involved. They inadvertently prioritize these moments over genuine experiences, like capturing a beautiful sunset in Cancun. Bonnie, in turn, continues to thrive on likes and subscriptions, inadvertently perpetuating a damaging cycle.
This obsession not only activates primal instincts centered on status but can dull our empathy towards others. When men become trapped in this mindset, it’s easy to overlook the underlying tragedy of her situation. Selling herself for fame might lead Bonnie to emotional turmoil down the line—maybe not today, but perhaps years from now. The Gooner mentality only accelerates this troubling self-destruction.
I don’t want to sound like some relic wagging my finger about spring break. It should be a fun time, and young men deserve to enjoy it. However, when some go to great lengths to pose with porn stars, it may reinforce negative stereotypes that many modern women hold about men—that they’re primarily after just one thing. Unfortunately, there’s truth in that assumption for some.
