Regina Spektor’s Concert Interrupted by Protests
Singer Regina Spektor had to pause her concert on Saturday in Portland, Oregon, due to vocal anti-Israel protests from the audience.
During her performance at Revolution Hall, several attendees started shouting “Free Palestine,” calling for a halt to the show and summoning security. Spektor addressed the disruptions directly, saying, “You’re just screaming at the Jews,” before being told to leave the venue.
Video clips shared by fans captured the moment, showcasing the chaotic scene as some spectators voiced their frustration while others expressed love for Spektor. Despite the tension, she managed to maintain a lighthearted approach, humorously thanking security, which elicited laughter from the crowd.
As the disruptions continued with more shouting, Spektor reflected on the situation, noting, “I thought this was different from the internet. This is real life.” The energetic exchange even led to heckling, with Spektor responding by reminding the attendees that the concert wasn’t the right place for such discussions.
As the situation escalated, one protester insisted that “genocide is happening,” prompting Spektor to reiterate her stance. “You can leave the show if you want,” she told the heckler, emphasizing the inappropriateness of the comments made during her concert.
In previous public statements, Spektor has expressed her sorrow regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflicts. Following a violent incident attributed to Hamas, she shared her grief for individuals affected on both sides through social media, indicating her complex feelings toward the situation. Spektor has criticized the Israeli government while still defending the rights of its citizens, highlighting the nuances in her perspective.
Representatives from Spektor and Revolution Hall have yet to respond to requests for further comment.
