John Kruk has become Angel Reese’s newest rival after a spontaneous comment.

John Kruk has become Angel Reese's newest rival after a spontaneous comment.

Angel Reese found herself in the spotlight during an MLB game.

While the Phillies were leading 6-0 against the White Sox on Tuesday night, the team’s play-by-play commentator, Tom McCarthy, took a moment to wish a happy birthday to his former high school basketball teammate, Bob Wyskowski.

In doing so, McCarthy threw in a light-hearted jab at Wyskowski, reminiscing about their playing days.

“He was one of those basketball players,” McCarthy said. “We played with Rider and Monmouth, and I missed a lot of shots, but he was always there to clean them up.”

Former Phillies player and analyst John Kruk seized the opportunity to comment on Reese, linking her to McCarthy’s remarks.

“I don’t want to say anything, but there are folks in Chicago who might do the same,” Kruk noted.

McCarthy replied, “That’s true; she gets her points.”

“She’ll rebound too,” Kruk added, referencing Reese’s skills.

Kruk’s remarks seemed to subtly critique Reese’s recent phrase “Mebounds,” which she uses to describe her resilience in bouncing back from mistakes.

“I’m sure we’ll get tweets about this,” Kruk mentioned.

Indeed, he was right. Despite being engaged in her game, Reese made sure to respond to Kruk’s comments.

“Clout is one Helluva Drug, really drives the point home,” Reese tweeted after an impressive performance, where she scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a game against the Mystics, which they ultimately lost.

Reese later took to TikTok to express her feelings further.

“You’re mean to me, struggling with life; you’re a good person for a good person,” she remarked, possibly referencing those critical of her.

Throughout her time in the WNBA, Reese has faced criticism regarding her finishing ability at the rim. However, she has proven to be one of the league’s top rebounders, setting records for the most double-doubles by a rookie at just 26. This season, she also became the fastest player to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds.
