Texas Man Sentenced for Murder of Adopted Son
A Texas man, Jemmaine Thomas, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the brutal murder of his adopted son, 7-year-old Troy Kohler. This tragic incident occurred on July 28, 2022, reportedly over the child eating a donut stick.
Thomas, 45, pleaded guilty to the charges, and during the investigation, prosecutors revealed disturbing text messages indicating his intent to harm the boy. The child’s lifeless body was discovered in a washing machine, covered in blood.
Authorities noted that Kohler had suffered multiple injuries, including choking and blunt force trauma, along with injuries to his face.
At a recent court hearing, the first-grade teacher of Troy, Cheryl Reed, shared heartfelt memories about her student. She expressed sorrow over the potential that has been lost due to the actions of those meant to protect him. “Now we will never know what he could have become. His dreams, his joys… all taken away,” Reed said. She reminisced about how Troy loved reading and how his enthusiasm inspired both his peers and her as an educator.
Meanwhile, Kohler’s adoptive mother, Tiffany Thomas, 38, has also pleaded guilty to charges related to the case. Her sentencing will take place on September 10th. Reports indicate she had made threats of violence against Kohler, including a statement about putting him in the oven if he didn’t admit to eating some sweets.
The couple adopted Kohler in 2019, and it has emerged that they had prior involvement with child protective services.
