Trump can address the UN’s shortcomings in Gaza and relieve Hamas’s control over assistance.

Gaza’s Deteriorating Situation

The situation in Gaza is increasingly dire. Food shortages are rampant, and many are facing starvation. The organization meant to assist—namely, the United Nations along with its various partners—appears to be faltering under the pressure of corruption and incompetence.

The statistics paint a grim picture. Numerous UN aid trucks are stationed in Gaza, loaded and ready, yet they remain idle. The aid delivery system is paralyzed—plagued by corruption, theft, and entanglements with Hamas. Convoys of food are often intercepted by militants or disappear completely. Simultaneously, distribution centers are either being ransacked or left abandoned. Meanwhile, agencies, which should be focused on humanitarian efforts, seem more preoccupied with safeguarding their reputation.

To make matters worse, a significant portion of the international media has begun to contribute to the problem. What once resembled journalism frequently amplifies Hamas propaganda, presenting unfounded claims as truth while undermining independent aid organizations like the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). There’s a tendency to ignore or downplay Hamas’ offenses while being quick to criticize Israel for civilian casualties—without considering the broader context. This kind of reporting has consequences. It reverberates among activists and officials in the West, seemingly giving Hamas the impetus to prolong the conflict, which leads to greater suffering for the people of Gaza, ultimately cutting off opportunities for peaceful resolutions. The aid system appears to be driven more by political bias rather than genuine humanitarian principles, making it vulnerable from the inside out.

GHF’s Impact Amidst Chaos

While many systems are breaking down, one organization has managed to do what the UN and its affiliates could not. In just a few months, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation successfully delivered over 95 million meals directly and reliably, with no intermediaries or ties to Hamas. This effort has focused solely on getting food to those in greatest need.

This success, however, poses a threat to Hamas. The GHF’s model demonstrates a viable alternative to the dysfunctional system that Hamas relies on for power and control. As a result, they have resorted to violence—GHF workers have been attacked, and Palestinian civilians have been killed for their involvement in providing aid. Rather than being isolated incidents, these acts appear part of a coordinated effort to undermine Gaza’s only operational humanitarian network. GHF not only challenges Hamas’s authority but shows that effective aid delivery is possible without their involvement.

A Call for Action

While the UN may be failing, there is an opportunity for U.S. intervention under the leadership of President Trump. Here’s a potential approach:

  1. First, publicly highlight the UN’s shortcomings. Every instance of missing aid or looted trucks should serve as a wake-up call. The international community should not turn a blind eye any longer. President Trump needs to take a clear stance against the UN’s dependency on groups like Hamas.
  2. Secondly, leverage U.S. funding. As the largest donor to the UN, the U.S. can impose conditions on funding, insisting on collaboration with groups like GHF that have proven effective and demand accountability.
  3. Lastly, encourage effective aid models like GHF, which operates independently of outdated systems, focusing on results rather than politics. This approach is critical in conflict zones where traditional bureaucracy may hinder real progress.

In essence, the crisis in Gaza requires decisive leadership. As GHF works to alleviate hunger, support from the U.S. could enhance their efforts. It’s crucial to recognize that feeding the hungry shouldn’t become a contentious political issue. The choice is clear: prioritize human welfare over politics.
