According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics accessed through Snopes, employment for native-born Americans was at 51.7% from January to June 2024 during former President Joe Biden’s term. In that period, native-born Americans gained approximately 1.09 million jobs, while immigrants added about 1.02 million jobs.
In the same timeframe a year prior, under President Donald Trump, native-born Americans made up all profits from seasonally adjusted employment figures.
The U.S. Department of Labor indicated that this trend has persisted up to last month. In a recent statement, they noted, “Wages are increasing, investments are flowing into the country, and native-born workers are responsible for the job growth since January.”
“This is a result of our strong immigration policy,” a spokesperson said.
The latest job counts from the BLS revealed that employment for American-born workers rose by about 383,000 last month. In contrast, the figure for foreign-born workers dropped by around 467,000.
Bloomberg has highlighted that the influx of foreign labor—both legal and illegal—has resulted in a reduction of approximately 1.7 million jobs since March.
EJ Antoni, Chief Economist at the Grover M. Hermann Center for the Federal Budget at the Heritage Foundation, remarked that this employment report represented the strongest figures for native-born Americans in July, showing growth of 2.2 million jobs—much faster than for foreign-born workers.
Blaze News reached out to the White House for comments regarding the situation.
Stephen Milan, chairman of the White House Economic Advisors Council, stated, “Since the president took office, we have created about 2.5 million jobs for Americans, but we have reduced the number of jobs for foreign-born workers by approximately 1 million. This reflects our robust immigration and border policies aimed at securing America.”
Milan also added that recent data highlights a decrease in the presence of foreign workers.
The employment summary revealed an addition of 73,000 new jobs in July and an unemployment rate that ticked up to 4.2%. The labor force participation rate stood at 62.2%, along with an ongoing loss of federal jobs.
In light of the employment report, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) stated, “Contrasting the Biden administration, which added numerous bureaucracies while raising food and gas costs, President Trump’s administration is enabling the private sector to create jobs, providing a more secure financial situation for American families.”
