Supreme Court Rejects Trump’s Appeal in E. Jean Carroll Case
The Supreme Court has weighed in on one of former President Trump’s appeals connected to E. Jean Carroll’s lawsuit, which his legal team refers to as the “Carol Hoax.”
On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected Trump’s appeal in the case known as Trump vs. Carroll.
According to reports, there were no significant objections to the court’s refusal to accept the lawsuit. Trump’s legal representatives stated, “The American people stand with President Trump in calling for an immediate end to all witch hunts, including the Democratic-funded farce of the Carroll hoax.”
Trump has stated that he did not commit the alleged actions described in the suit. The legal battles stem from an earlier ruling by a jury, which found that Trump sexually assaulted Carroll at a Manhattan department store in 1996 and later defamed her through statements made in 2022. This was confirmed by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
Further complicating matters, Carroll is reportedly facing a criminal investigation regarding perjury. She allegedly stated under oath that she did not receive outside funding for her legal fees, but this has been scrutinized given her ties to billionaire Reid Hoffman, a prominent Democratic donor.
It’s worth noting that the Supreme Court’s decision on Monday pertains only to one of Trump’s appeals. Trump is also contesting a separate ruling that awarded Carroll $83.3 million in another defamation case, which has not yet come before the Supreme Court.
Earlier in the month, Trump’s advisors informed the Supreme Court that they aimed to appeal and requested consideration of the two related cases together, but that request was not granted. This leaves Carroll in a precarious position as legal troubles mount for both parties.
