A teacher in Arkansas faces accusations of murdering a couple while they were hiking with two young girls. Prior to this, he reportedly exhibited a “cold” and indifferent demeanor towards his students, which led to him being placed on administrative leave two years ago.
Andrew James McGan, 28, is charged with killing 43-year-old Clinton David Brink and his wife, Kristen Amanda Brink. A parent, Sierra Malcolm, described McGan’s teaching style as somewhat distant; her son was in his fourth-grade class.
“He was quite cold. When you asked him questions, his replies were minimal,” Malcolm shared.
She considered him the “most standoff teacher” she had encountered. After noticing some troubling behavior in her son’s interactions, she brought her concerns to the principal.
“He and his classmates noticed that McGan displayed favoritism towards certain girls,” she added.
Reflecting on the murder allegations, Malcolm expressed surprise, saying, “I didn’t think he was violent at all.” McGan took a leave from teaching in the spring of 2023. An internal investigation by the Lewisville Independent School District found no evidence of inappropriate behavior.
McGan is alleged to have ambushed the Brinks, fatally stabbing them while their daughters, aged 9 and 7, escaped unharmed. This shocking incident sparked a five-day manhunt that ended with his capture following a chase from a barbershop. He was charged with capital murder on Wednesday.
During a brief court appearance on Friday, he was assigned a public defender and held without bail. Washington County Prosecutor Brandon Carter indicated he would seek a no-contact order with the victims’ family if bail is set.
Authorities are still investigating the motives behind this tragic attack.
