Democrats Upholding the “Occlusionist Brand” During Senator Blackburn’s Discussion

Host Mike Slater addressed Senator Marsha Blackburn regarding the current backlog of approximately 130 judges awaiting confirmation.

“What do you think about that?” Slater asked.

Blackburn explained that the backlog extends beyond judges to include lawyers, ambassadors, and cabinet-related roles.

“All Cabinet Secretaries have been confirmed, but their deputies and assistants need Senate approval. We’re now dealing with these assistant roles, as well as U.S. attorneys,” she stated.

She elaborated, “They simply disagree with the idea of anything that supports Donald Trump,” while discussing how Democrats are insisting on solid votes for every nomination.

“It’s your filibuster. Unless you take the necessary time to review, for circuit judges and cabinet secretaries, the process takes 30 hours. For others, it’s just 2 hours. So, for positions like board members or U.S. attorneys, it’s 2 hours to vote – two hours – and you cannot proceed until the vote is complete. Just a few minutes,” she remarked.

“If we were forced to proceed, why would they say it during the process?” Slater queried.

Blackburn responded that it’s a possibility, mentioning that some GOP senators suggested, “We should just stay here.”

She added, “People might lose family leave, but we need to compel Democrats to be present to vote. This is to prevent them from being in their home states during August,” Blackburn emphasized. “President Trump deserves to have all his cabinet members—secretaries, aides, and U.S. attorneys—who can address crime effectively.”

“He deserves these positions. The American people voted for them. It’s an obligation. Let’s have Democrats here to vote. I even heard one Democrat say they liked it, but they were aligned with their own brand, so they planned to vote accordingly,” she shared, noting the Democrats seem to “protect this occlusionist brand.”
