ICE’s Current Recruitment Efforts
US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) is currently employing a significant number of personnel, according to acting director Todd Lyons. During an interview, he highlighted that under President Trump’s administration, ICE has been able to attract a diverse group of individuals—including former law enforcement officers, military veterans, and others committed to serving in federal law enforcement.
Lyons noted that the enforcement removal program, intended to manage deportations and apprehend individuals on the run, suffered during the previous administration.
“We faced restrictions that limited our capabilities,” Lyons explained. “However, with President Trump and Secretary Noem at the helm, we’re seeing a shift.” He emphasized the desire for motivated individuals who want to protect their country, serve their communities, and contribute to overall public safety.
Lyons also shared insights about their hiring priorities. He mentioned the need for deportation officers, describing it as an honorable position that requires significant dedication. Moreover, there’s a push for lawyers to join their ranks, specifically those who are eager to engage with some of the department’s most critical legal responsibilities.
To attract candidates, Lyons outlined several incentives, such as a $50,000 signing bonus and options for student loan forgiveness.
Overall, it’s evident that ICE is attempting to rebuild and energize its workforce, focusing on those who are passionate about their roles and the impact they can have.
