Cambodia Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
Cambodia has decided to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his involvement in a ceasefire agreement with Thailand.
During a press briefing in Phnom Penh on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister San Changtor emphasized Trump’s pivotal role in easing the border issues between Cambodia and Thailand, suggesting that he deserves recognition for his contributions to regional stability.
In a text message reply to inquiries about the nomination, Changtor simply confirmed, “Yes.”
Interestingly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also put forth a nomination for Trump, while Pakistani officials previously indicated they would support him for his efforts in reducing tensions with India.
In a recent call with Cambodian and Thai leaders, Trump stressed the importance of quickly settling the ceasefire, warning that US trade negotiations would be halted if violence persisted.
On Monday, Malaysia announced a ceasefire that officially marked the end of a prolonged conflict between the nations, considered one of the fiercest in recent history.
“Many people were killed, and I dealt with two countries that had very different allies. They’ve been at odds for centuries. And we resolved that conflict… through trade,” Trump stated.
After the ceasefire announcement, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt commended Trump’s efforts in achieving this agreement and echoed calls for him to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
“President Trump has done this. Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!” she posted on social media.
