Recent Polling Trends for Major Public Figures
In a new Gallup poll, former President Trump appears to be lagging behind progressive leaders like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
Released on Tuesday, the poll indicates that Trump’s net approval rating has dropped by 16 points, with only 41% of respondents expressing a favorable opinion of him. Interestingly, around 2% of those surveyed had no opinion about Trump at all.
Ocasio-Cortez’s net favorability was reported at minus four points, with 34% holding a favorable view of her and 38% viewing her unfavorably. About 28% of respondents had no opinion regarding her or other progressive lawmakers.
Former President Biden’s ratings are also noteworthy. After a dip during his time in office that he never quite recovered from, he has a net favorability of minus 11 points, placing him somewhat in the middle of the public figures. Approximately 43% of adults viewed Biden positively, while 54% had unfavorable opinions, with an additional 3% lacking any opinion.
Among the figures surveyed, Pope Leo XIV emerged with the most favorable image—57% viewed him positively, with only 11% holding negative opinions. Nearly a third, 31%, had no opinion on him.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ranked second, with a net rating of plus 18, while Sanders held third place at plus 11.
Interestingly, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) and Vice President Kamala Harris both shared a net favorability of minus 11 points.
Regarding Trump administration officials, approval ratings have taken a significant hit. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and tech figure Elon Musk saw their ratings drop by 24 points. Rubio’s net favorability stands at minus 16, with 31% viewing him positively against 47% who have a negative view.
Musk, formerly with the Government Efficiency Bureau and having had notable disagreements with Trump, is at the bottom of the list with a net rating of minus 28, marking a 24-point decline since January.
Gallup noted that the decrease in favorable ratings for key Trump administration figures parallels a 10-point decline in Trump’s job approval rate over the same timeframe.
A previous Gallup poll in late July indicated Trump’s approval rate was at 37%, reflecting a 10-point drop since his time in office began. Additionally, a recent survey from The Economist/YouGov placed the president’s net approval at 15 points underwater.
The poll included responses from 1,002 adults, conducted between July 7 and 21, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
