A criminal attorney representing Karen Reed, Alan Jackson, has announced his involvement in countering an unlawful death lawsuit launched by the family of the late Boston police officer, John O’Keefe.
In a recent statement, Jackson revealed that attorney Elizabeth Little will be joining their civil defense team, following her previous association with him during the criminal case.
“I proudly stand with Elizabeth Little as we join Karen Reed’s civil defense team in the relentless pursuit of justice,” Jackson said in a statement to Boston 25. “Karen’s bravery in challenging power dynamics and demanding the truth is unwavering, and so is our commitment.”
“This battle isn’t over. We won’t rest until every falsehood is unveiled, along with every error,” the statement concluded.
Reed, who is 45, was acquitted in June of murdering 46-year-old O’Keefe but was found guilty of drunk driving and received a one-year probation sentence.
Following her acquittal, Reed’s attorney filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought by O’Keefe’s family.
Prosecutors allege that during a snowstorm on January 29, 2022, after a party in Canton, Massachusetts, O’Keefe succumbed in a snowbank while intoxicated, with Reed fleeing in a Lexus SUV.
Reed has consistently maintained that she is a victim of a cover-up orchestrated by law enforcement.
The lawsuit mirrors the criminal charges, accusing her of intentionally causing O’Keefe’s death while under the influence and then fabricating a misleading narrative regarding the events.
It further asserts that Reed’s alleged neglect has inflicted emotional distress on the O’Keefe family.
The trial date for the civil lawsuit remains undetermined.
