Photographer Opposed to Israel Sets Up Images of Famine in Gaza

A photographer known for being showcased by global organizations is reportedly staging images of hunger in Gaza, focusing on women and children while omitting scenes of Palestinians receiving food, according to a German report.

Investigation findings highlight that although hunger is very real, the circulated images may not reflect that reality accurately. Recent photos depicted desperate individuals in front of food trucks. However, one photographer, Anas Zayed fteiha, a freelance “journalist” for the Turkish agency Anadoru, captures these moments under a specific agenda.

Critics note that other photographers show scenes where adults, in fact, wait for and receive food. There’s a suggestion that fteiha has a prominent mission of advocating for “free Palestine,” which he communicates through bold imagery on his Instagram account, marking himself with press insignia. Some allege that he expresses negative sentiments towards Jews.

In the Gaza Strip, it’s local Palestinian photographers who primarily document these situations. Historian and photography expert Gerhard Paul explained that in Southern Gaza, Hamas retains complete control over the production of imagery, aiming to evoke Western sympathy and provoke outrage against Israel.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that these images, produced by anti-Israel freelancers and news agencies, manipulate global perceptions. Journalist Avi Mayer pointed out that photos of “starved” Palestinian children have appeared on the front pages of various international publications, but there was a notable absence of similar coverage regarding Israeli hostages depicted as being deliberately starved by Hamas, which mostly appeared in Israeli media.
