Michelle Obama took a stroll down memory lane on a recent episode of the podcast “IMO,” sharing how she fell in love with Barack Obama.
During the episode, she reminisced about their initial connection when the Robinson brothers asked her what first attracted her to Barack.
In the podcast, Michelle reflected on her time in the law firm where she met Barack, describing him as a bit “weird” and a “nerd.” However, she felt an unmistakable spark during their first phone conversation.
“He had the voice of Barack Obama,” she noted, surprised by how appealing his voice sounded compared to her initial impression. “He was older and confident,” she added.
Although she wasn’t initially drawn to the “hot shots” of her law firm, her perception of Barack shifted when they met in person. “He was definitely more attractive than his pictures,” she admitted.
As they spent time together during work lunches, Michelle found herself drawn to him despite trying to keep things professional, afraid of appearing “sticky” or inappropriate.
Despite attempts to match Barack with other colleagues, they became “really good friends.” Over the summer, the attraction developed into something deeper.
Barack’s directness, which Michelle found “somewhat sexy,” eventually led him to persuade her to go on a proper date.
Michelle reflected that she almost overlooked a great relationship due to her hesitations. “I could’ve missed out on the man of my dreams,” she shared, feeling grateful for their journey together.
They married in October 1992 and welcomed their daughters, Malia in 1998 and Sasha in 2001.
Recently, amid rumors of marital issues, the couple reassured listeners during their podcast that they still cherish their relationship.
Michelle emphasized that every marriage requires hard work, stating, “It’s not always easy.” Yet she believes in the strength of their bond, affirming, “I’m lucky to be in this marriage.”
