Texas GOP’s Redistricting Efforts Defended by Lt. Col. Dan Patrick
Texas Lt. Col. Dan Patrick defended the Republican Party’s redistricting plans, asserting that they rightfully deserve more congressional seats since they represent a stronghold in the state.
During a chat with Fox News on “Hornity,” Patrick criticized Democrats for leaving the state to obstruct a new congressional map that could provide Republicans with five potential gains in mid-2026. He accused them of becoming disconnected from their constituents.
“I encourage them to come back and do what’s right. They shouldn’t just run away,” Patrick expressed to host Sean Hannity.
“The issue isn’t just about redistricting,” he added. “Their real problem is that they’ve lost touch with their voters, while support for Republicans is growing across the nation.”
“We are in the red. We deserve greater representation,” he remarked.
Following the Texas House Committee’s advancement of updated congressional boundaries in a special session last week, Democrats exited the state, preventing Republicans from reaching the necessary majority to conduct business.
In retaliation, Texas Governor Greg Abbott called for the arrest of the departing Democrats and initiated an investigation by the Texas Rangers into their possible misconduct, including bribery.
Patrick promised to push forward with the redistricting effort in the Texas Senate, where a quorum is still present, and vowed to present the new map promptly.
“I plan to deliver the district next week,” he stated, referring to the state Senate. “We’re committed to moving this agenda forward.”
“Whether it’s now, later in August, or September, we’re determined to get it done. There’s really nothing they can do to hinder us,” he asserted.
Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) has urged the FBI to intervene and compel Democrats to return for votes. This call for action was echoed by former President Trump, who remarked that Republicans are entitled to those five congressional seats.
