Trump and Putin Preparing for First Meeting in Second Term

It seems that President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet soon. This would be their first encounter since Trump began his second term earlier this year.

Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign advisor, mentioned that “American proposals in principle support the idea of high-level bilateral meetings in the coming days.” He emphasized the importance of preparing for a successful meeting with Trump.

Trump is expected to meet with Putin next week, followed by discussions involving Ukraine’s President Zelensky.

The White House reached out to provide comments early Thursday morning, focused on the potential meeting, which comes amid Trump’s efforts to mediate an end to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Despite the lack of a ceasefire, Trump described his interactions with Putin as “very productive.” He stated, “My special envoy, Steve Witkov, had a productive meeting with Putin. We’ve seen significant progress.” He added that he has updated some European allies who share the view that the war should conclude soon.

In light of these developments, it appears there’s mutual interest in fostering dialogue. Caroline Levitt, the White House press chief, noted, “The Russians have conveyed their desire to meet President Trump, who aims to engage with both Putin and Zelensky.”
