Tours of the White House are on hold as work starts on a new State Ballroom.

Public tours at the White House are currently on hold as preparations begin for the construction of a new state ballroom. Nicholas Clemens, communication director for the First Lady, clarified that while tours haven’t been entirely canceled, new bookings will not be accepted for the time being. This pause is due to the collaboration between the White House, the U.S. Secret Service, and the National Park Service, as they work to manage public access during the project.

The upcoming Stateball Room aims to provide a dedicated venue for official events, state dinners, and large ceremonies, featuring around 90,000 square feet of space for approximately 650 guests. It will maintain the classic design of the White House, preserving the architectural integrity that many celebrate.

“The President and First Lady are dedicated to upholding the tradition of public access to the residences of current and future leaders,” Clemens stated. He expressed eagerness for updates on the ballroom’s development soon.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt also mentioned that construction is projected to start in September and will be completed before the end of President Trump’s term, which is quite promising. Notably, guests who previously entered the East Wing will experience changes in the tour layout due to this new project.

Rooms featured on the tours typically include a range of historic locations, such as the Vermeil Room, library, and various themed rooms. The modifications brought about by this new ballroom might alter how visitors experience the White House’s rich history and decor.
