Kelly Clarkson Postpones Vegas Shows Due to Father’s Illness
This week, Kelly Clarkson announced the postponement of her remaining Las Vegas concert dates. This decision comes as she needs to support her father, who is seriously ill. Tragically, he passed away shortly after her announcement.
Brandon Blackstock, the father of her children—11-year-old Kawarose and nine-year-old Remington “Remy” Alexander—died at the age of 48. Blackstock, who was the son of music manager Narbell Blackstock, grew up immersed in the country music scene and later became connected to the industry through marriage.
Clarkson and Blackstock tied the knot in October 2013 and were together for nearly seven years before their separation in 2020, which was finalized in 2022. He also served as her manager during their time together.
“Unfortunately, we will need to postpone the remaining dates for the August studio session in Las Vegas,” Clarkson shared regarding her residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. “I usually keep my personal life private, but for the past year, my child’s father has been unwell. Right now, I need to be fully present for them. I truly apologize to everyone who has purchased tickets.”
A representative for Blackstock emphasized that he fought valiantly against cancer. “It’s extremely sad to share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. He bravely battled cancer for over three years. He died peacefully, surrounded by family,” the representative stated.
Clarkson first gained fame in 2002 when she won American Idol and quickly transitioned into a successful recording artist. Besides her music, she has hosted daytime talk shows and served as a coach on The Voice.
Clarkson has spoken about her Southern Baptist upbringing and how it has influenced her values. “I grew up in church. I was the leader of the youth group. I’ve always been close to the church and God. I think I’m getting even closer because He is the only person I can truly rely on,” she once said.
